The 2024 LIS Hypoxia Season Summary, produced by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP) using data collected in conjunction with IEC, is now available.

Since 1991, CTDEEP and IEC have been monitoring dissolved oxygen levels throughout the Long Island Sound (LIS) in order to collect data about hypoxia (low/depleted dissolved oxygen concentrations) in the LIS watershed. To obtain a more comprehensive picture, the program also monitors parameters relating to hypoxia, including nutrients, temperature, and chlorophyll a.

The 2024 season summary includes interactive graphs and maps illustrating the extent of hypoxia in the LIS watershed both in the past year and over time. In addition, data from CTDEEP and IEC will both be available for download through WQX using the following codes:

IEC's data ID: 31ISC2RS_WQX

CTDEEP's data ID: CT_DEP01_WQX
