BioBAT, Inc. (www.biobat.nyc) and the Interstate Environmental Commission seek proposals from qualified general contractors to build and fit-out 2,800 square feet of BSL-2 laboratory and office space. BioBAT, as landlord, and IEC, as tenant, are negotiating a lease on the second floor of BioBAT in Building A at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

On Tuesday, June 30th, IEC resumed monitoring surveys in Far Western Long Island Sound, after a two-month hiatus due to COVID-19. These surveys monitor dissolved oxygen, as well as parameters that may impact dissolved oxygen at 22 stations in support of the Long Island Sound Water Quality Monitoring Program. IEC performs monitoring surveys weekly during the critical summer season, when hypoxia is most prevalent. Weekly surveys will continue through mid-September.

Thanks to the partnership of the Interstate Environmental Commission (IEC) and other partner agencies and organizations, a coordinated volunteer pathogen monitoring effort in the shared marine waters of the estuary and the Interstate Environmental District (IED) is now underway. The combination of IEC’s laboratory space, QA/QC support oversight, and field equipment and the work of the
IEC and CTDEEP are pleased to release the 2018 Long Island Sound Hypoxia Season Review.

On May 31st, 2019, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo nominated Philip M. DeGaetano and Jeffrey A. Myers for appointment as Commissioners of the Interstate Environmental Commission. The New York State Senate confirmed their nomination on June 20th, 2019.
On May 23rd, 2019, IEC began its Coordinated Volunteer Pathogen Monitoring season.
On May 16th 2019, IEC began its seasonal embayment monitoring in Long Island Sound. For the third consecutive year, IEC is performing monitoring in Little Neck Bay and Manhasset Bay in support of the Unified Water Study, which is funded and coordinated by Save the Sound/Connecticut Fund for the Environment. From May through October 2019, IEC will be performing monitoring and sampling in these priority embayments twice a month.

The New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program released its 2017-2022 Action Agenda. The Action Agenda identifies five long-term goals, 17 objectives, and 40 specific actions that will help enable people and wildlife to benefit from the fishable and swimmable waters called for by the Clean Water Act. The 2017 Action Agenda highlights the shared priorities of the NY-NJ Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP) and its partners, including IEC.
